Soundtrack Analysis

We have added the soundtrack onto the footage. The lyrics are the main thing to listen out for and to follow the storyline. The images and soundtrack lyrics are interlinked to create and perform a much clearer message to our audience. The main message behind this is the typical boy meets girl, but there are many more to look out for and to think about. The band shots are used in a special way, in order for the audience to have to think about things and read the story, not just watch a video, they will have to analyse it.

Editing

We have recently discovered that our footage was lost at one poibnt but we recovered it, as it also, saved on the camera card too. We have developed part of our music video, we have nearly finished out video we are just finishing up on a few editing arrangements and we want to move around some footage to create a better impact on the audience.

We have had slight hitches...

The amount of things that we have had go wrong for us is just indescribable but together we have come out the other side and merged our ideas together. We have recently edited out footage the we have caputured, which is filming of Morgana and Ryan meeting, discussing, making out and much more. The footage we have edited has come together quite well and this has impacted on our performance towards the film. We are far more determined, now we have had a couple of mess ups, but now we are completely commited to our project.

How We Have Turned Things Around... We Hope.

As you know we have had a few lumps and hurdles to jump in order to achieve something that was destroyed. This has been a challenge as we adjusted our music video once and then it became shambles as footage wasn't to the standard we needed. We then discussed as a group that this wasn't going to work as the footage was poor and only some of the shots would have made sense, if they were included within the film.

We all sat down and discussed things over and said that this obviously wasn't ever going to become a video so we came up with a couple of ideas, as a group, instead of just throwing our heads down. We have came up with the idea of making it a social event, as the lyrics are based on the same thing, we didn't really need to change the message within the video, we just needed to change how the message was going to be put across to the spectators.

We have captured some footage of Ryan and myself socialising in the park, kicking around a bottle pretending to play football. This is the new lead up to the message of the story, where Ryan see's his "Love" walking with her boyfriend.

Editing Footage

Today, we started to edit our footage that we captured the other day. We have cut out the main bits that we needed, to add to our previous footage. We looked at the footage from the recording of the park, Ryan and myself, pretending to play football and having fun. We have captured the main parts of our footage that we needed, but we still need a bit more footage to continue the storyline and we need it to fill in some time that we need.

From these lyrics it's clear that the female character in this story is already in a relationship and is already dancing with a different guy. Throughout the song, the other male who is interested in her is determined to get her by insisting that she would be happier with him.

Footage That Went Horribly Wrong.

5th November - our group organised a recording period at a hall we had rented out for that night. First, we arranged and positioned the band, and filmed different shots of them individually. We captured a variety of shots of the band separate from the crowd shots. After we had recorded the band shots we then got people to enter the hall to continue with our work.

However, we did have some major problems when we where filming. Firstly, unfortunately, I could not attend due to an unexpected family emergency. Secondly, people turned up with alcohol, which normally means bad news and we were right as most people ended up getting drunk and out of control. This wasn't very helpful as we trying to organise people for there performance and get people to act as extras. Plus, even though most people turned up from our facebook group - people invited people who invited people, therefore we thought that we were going to have quite a crowd. However, the capacity of people was not enough. Due to the lack of people, we where unable to record some scenes, involving are two main characters meeting through the crowd. Ontheotherhand, we still managed to get some shots with a party atmosphere. The video below shows why we could not use this.

15/11/2010 Shooting Lesson

Today we found out that the previous footage we had filmed had not been transferred onto the PC. We didn't want to let that get us down, so we grabbed a camera and tripod and went straight outside to film again. This time we made sure that the footage was saved onto the PC by saving it into the media departments folder. We are really pleased with what we recorded today and next lesson we will be logging each individual shot if everything goes to plan. Hopefully we don't get any more interferences, but if we do, we will find a way to improve it just like we did today.

Research on Digipak Task

I have been searching for a variety of digipaks and I have seen how many different designs there are. I have focused mainly on the ones that have two or three slots as we will not have the time or materials to do more than this, but with the time that we have we are planning to make our design great. Here are a few designs that I have been looking at:

I have analysed this design over and over and the design is brilliant and the colours really grab your attention. This design is, unfortunately, to difficult and time consuming to make as I personally think that this design would be a great example as it has amazing colours, is four folding, has a list of the songs, a small briefing and much more. I especially like the way that they have formed and combined two of the fold outs to create one image as this shows that they have thought thoroughly on how they wanted to design this Digipak.

This Digipak is simple, but yet so effective. It has just two fold outs, one fold out for the CD and the other side is a design of the inside of a car. From this picture you can't really tell who the artist is or anything but, the design tells me that the songs are either fast and adrenaline rushing or music with a beat, but lyrics are to do with a type of motor vehicle or pop rock.



This 3-sleeved digipak is a more complicated design than the 4-sleeved, but not a simple as the 2-sleeved. Although this isn't the simplest idea, it is however the best, in my opinion. The reason I think this is the best digipak is because this will show that we've put a lot of effort into it, the digipak shouldn't take forever to complete and it will show that we are trying our best and are trying to manage our time well. This task that we have to complete, contributes towards our coursework grade and therefore we are going to put all of our effort into our coursework, into the short amount of time that we have. Within this 3-sleeved digipak, we can contain images of the band, use and create images from the lyrics that are sung and also, we can have a colour to represent the mood of the song.

Hesitations...

We have had some slight trouble uploading our footage onto the site and each of our blogs, but we uploaded them yesterday and started to work on them straight away. We have edited some of the footage in the time we had and for now that is all we can until we return to college on Monday as none of us have the software at home... which is a bit unfortunate, but we will be straight onto it and start editing as soon as we get into lesson.

We all our going to have inputs on the footage and the way in which it will be edited. We all have some great ideas on what effects to use and what footage should go where, so there will be discussions during the editing phase in addition to throughout everything else.

Shots We Know Are Being Used.

The shots that we captured during college, in college, are the shots that we are definitely going to use within our music video. The reason we are using these shots is because they give the spectators an idea that there are messages within the music video, not it just being a band playing. The main storyline within the film is typical boy sees girl and likes what he sees and tries to impress. We have some shots that I have already spoken about in the last post, (the shots of both boy and girl getting prepared and trying to impress).

The reason we are using these shots and messages is because the lyrics are based around partying and asking a girl to dance. This is the reason we chose to perform and capture in a hall, and basically have a party, to capture the scene we needed.

The shots that we recorded during and within college, are shots of Ryan (boy) acting as if he has just seen the girl walk past him and he is shocked and looks up in a complete gaze, Morgana (girl) walking past and acting embarrassed and giving a shy and timid smile, which creates the link and feelings between both characters.

Been Filming... Sorry.

So here I am once again updating you all on the activities we have been doing for the past month. We have been capturing most of our shots by tripod and handheld camera, but also we have used the camera by hand to create a spectator effect. We hired out a hall to capture the main event but due to some particular circumstances, it didn't go according to plan. The shots that Ryan and myself captured were okay, along with Morgana and Nicole capturing the same shots but from a different perspective. We captured an all round shot of the hall, giving us a chance to use this to fill in some gaps and become part of the music video. The shots we captured on the evening were not really usable, the only shots we recorded that were, were the shots of the band. The only shots that we will be able to use are the shots of each member of the band and this is due to the fact that the singer was not able to attend the event. We have captured the shots that we needed, shots like the expression on the boys (Ryan's) face, and both characters, boy (Ryan) and girl (Morgana), preparing for the event and trying to impress.

Storyboard

We have created a storyboard that contains the majority of our film but we have made some adjustments. We haven't followed the storyboard completely due to the face that our footage had been changed a couple times due to footage not being to the standard that we had hoped. Also, we combined the ideas within the storyboard within our film. We have made the message as clear as possible, all we have done is improved our footage.

We have come to the conclusion that our third storyboard idea was our most appropriate for our topic and message within the story. I will shortly have an image of our storyboard posted.

Film Shots.

We have been using the tripod along with a digital video camera. We have used a variety of shots including:
Over the shoulder, Close-up, Extreme Close-up, Pan, Tilt.
We are also shooting from different angles. With the position of the camera, you can allow the expressions to look better and the lighting is different upon the object/person which can influence on how the spectators look at the situation. Also, the lighting on a person face or an object can give the spectators a general idea of the mood within the situation. This increases the atmosphere of the scene or even extend have an impact on the whole film. The importance, dominance and position of a character can be shown through what shots you use. Depending on the angle and type of shot determines to the spectators whether they are important or dominant in certain situations or their role throughout the film. The position of the camera is vital, as it is able to show characters role or expressions in great detail. This detail is needed to set the mood within the atmosphere as well as the actors becoming their characters.

The reason we need to show all of this is because the impact of the characters is vital to the film, along with the mise-en-scene, the performance of the actors is one of the main elements with a music video.

This video shows that not only can there be videos that are produced with images and shots of a real life band, they can be in animation as well. We were shown this video to give us an idea on what could be done and how this type of music is put together. This also is telling us as an audience that music isn't always a soundtrack with music, it can be traditional, creative and all done with a type of motion, action or performance. what this video does is grab the audiences attention towards the music, and also, some people nod along to the beat of the music, along with the animated characters. This makes the audience feel as if they are a part of the video and they like the video.

This video is a great help to our group considering we were planning on doing having a house party and a lot of people, to create a busy frame and their will be a 'boy likes girl' story embedded within our music video.

YouMeAtSix - Gossip



This is also a great video because again there is a party scene and there is also, reference to the lyrics and tone of the song. the reason we have chosen to look at this song is because it is on the same wave-length as we are and we are thinking about creating a party scene.

You Me At Six have used a lot of the sex element to create a video that some people would like, with the use of attractive girls in bikini's and underwear. This is a great way to promote their video as well as the actual song and the meaning behind it.

Research

We have looked at past A2 productions that have been completed and posted on YouTube. We are talking about what are the good and bad bits about the videos and this is helping us decide what we think we should and should not do.

The first thing that we didn't like about most of the music videos that we watched was that they didn't have their own original soundtrack, they had a copyright. This just shows that they haven't really made a original, unique music video. The performance obviously is their own work but mixed with a soundtrack that already exists, it doesn't really show their full potential.

This is why we have decided as a group to use Ryan's own music, that he has created with his band, 'Lost in the lights'.

The Beginning First Ideas and Research

We are going to produce either a short film or a music video containing one of our friends bands. We had a choice of 3 possible tasks but we are focusing on just these two. We are going to research this by watching videos on 'YouTube' mainly and watching short films on 'Film short'. We are edging more towards the music video for our choice of task but we are all going to research and then discuss on this. We are going to focus on how both the music videos and short films are structured and how they impact on the audience and especially we are going to focus on the 3 act structures.

To produce the music video we Will have to get a band that we know personally so that we can assure that we are using own music and also this doesn't apply pressure to us as a group to find a piece of music that isn't copyright. Also, getting someone that we know can help us understand that lyrics and mood of the song in more depth, and this will allow us to write in more detail so that the audience can understand it in more depth as well.

For the short film we have a really wide variety of choice of how to categorise our film. We would have to choose something that isn't too complex and that we can work with flexibly. With the music video we can arrange it to how we wanted it to be and as one of us knows someone that is in a band this would be quite amazing to do.
